Weekly review: iZombie

I think this is one of the most clever and original shows recently. It takes two overly done tropes and puts them together, which makes it a very interesting show. For those of you who don’t know what it’s about, I’ll give a bit of background. Liv Moore is a doctor in training with a bright future and a smokin hot guy, until she goes to a party and becomes a zombie. However, as long as she has a steady diet of brains, she can stay sane and not become a lumbering rotting monster. She starts working for the coroner’s office at the Seattle PD, and with the help of her also hot boss who knows about her zombie-ness, she eats the brains of murder victims and gets flashbacks to find out how they died. Β She starts helping out a Homicide Detective with cases, while also dealing with the whole, you know. Zombie thing.

Ratings:

Drama:Β πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

There is some great drama. Liv and Major, Ravi and Peyton, and other… relationships. The whole on-again off-again thing with LITERALLY EVERYBODY is really fun, and there’s jsut enough to keep it interesting, but not to much that it becomes a drama show. Also i super duper ship Liv and Major.

Action:Β πŸ”«πŸ”«πŸ”«πŸ”«

Whoop, fair amount of action in this show. You know. Cop show and zombie show. I really like the action, as for the most part, it’s good, suspenseful action. The zombies in their psycho-haven’t-had-brains-in-a-long-time are cool looking, and also Liv kicks major(‘s) ass.

Cheese:Β πŸ§€πŸ§€

I feel like there actually isn’t that much cheese in this show? Like, It’s pretty good? There’s some amnesia later on, which is annoying, but i think it’s really good.

Story line:Β πŸ“ˆπŸ“ˆπŸ“ˆπŸ“ˆ

It’s good! There’s your episode-to-episode story arcs, and the overarching plot line with Blaine and Major and Vaughn and all of them. They did this well.

Overall:Β πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

This is a good TV show. It’s got a great balance of drama and action, it’s not super cheesy, and the plot lines are interesting.

This is totally something you should watch. Season 1 and 2 are on Netflix, and it’s so much fun! Liv is super great, and it’s awesome.

P.S. Just a clarification: These emojis aren’t the amount of that thing. It’s how good that thing is. Like, there isn’t much action in iZombie, but it’s good action. Does that make sense?

Weekly Review: Supergirl

Supergirl is one of the latest in a long string of superhero shows. This one focuses on the technically older cousin of Superman, and her plight as she defends National City and makes a name for herself outside the shadow of her cousin. It also shows her balancing human relationships and finding love.

Official Summary:Β At 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escapes doom on planet Krypton to find protection on Earth with the Danver family, where she grows up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learns to hide the extraordinary powers she shares with her cousin, Superman. Now an adult living in National City and working for media mogul Cat Grant, Kara finds her days of keeping her abilities a secret are over when super-secret agency head Hank Henshaw enlists her to help protect the city’s citizens from threats. Finally coming into her own, Kara must juggle her new responsibilities with her very human relationships.

Ratings:

Drama:Β πŸ’”πŸ’”

There’s like some tension between Kara, James, and Winn, but really not that much. I mean, there’s a bit about her dating life, and family drama, and businessΒ drama, but not a ton. Maybe there will be more in the next season and/or later episodes, but there’s only a bit now.

Action:Β πŸ”«πŸ”«πŸ”«πŸ”«

This show is SO MUCH ACTION. It’s not the best action, but there’s a lot. For example, there was this scene I just watched where Supergirl fights this alien *gasp* and she, like, punches and hits and lasers and all that shit. I mean, it’s cool. But it’s not high-quality action. Know what I mean?

Cheese:Β πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€

Whew, no shortage of cheese here. A lot of overly dramatic lines and scenes, things that could have been avoided, and things that are not very logical or likely to happen. Ex. She would have stopped sending out electricity when she got wet. The first few episodes were heavier on the cheese factor, but it seems to be getting better.

Storyline:πŸ“ˆΒ πŸ“ˆπŸ“ˆ

In the very first episode, they introduced something that perfectly sets them up for individual storylines with a big overarching plot. It’s not very creative, i.e. Revenge, Spite, Aliens with abs. However, they’ve done some of these things in a pretty good way that makes the show fun and entertaining.

Overall:Β πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

I think this is overall a good show. It’s certainly not great, it’s very cheesy at times and the action is low-quality. Also, not everybody is that hot in real life. Like, if I worked at CatCo, where Supergirl has her day job, I would be so happy. I really like Kara, also. She’s awkward and goofy at times and v confused on how to be a superhero, but her heart is in the right place and she has a good head on her shoulders.
